With experience having worked in Google for several years in data security, data privacy, and well … all things data … we’re passionate about data privacy and user security as first principles.

Our ‘North Star’ metric, if you prefer, is forever and always ‘is this safe, secure, protecting and respecting the privacy of the user?

We’re a team of data geeks, researchers, and yes, actual chefs. Yes, really! And given our extensive experience with startups both failed as well as exited in areas as varied as real estate, financial services, medicine, sports data analysis, and even cookery, we’ve learnt quite a bit about what works and, frankly, many and several ways that don’t.

We started Umbra Development to explore the boundaries of our experience and passion for data privacy and to build real world developer tools, open source libraries, and apps all of which we seek to be useful and secure. We test data, not users.
